Green Card

Green card is a document stating that a person is a lawful resident in the United States.

A permanent Green Card is valid for the period of ten years and can be renewed providing a lawful permanent resident did not commit any serious crimes in the past. There are conditional green cards given to persons who married U.S. citizens less than 2 years before the application. After 2 years of marriage the Green Card holder can apply to have the 2-year conditional residence approved.

It is important to remember that holding a U.S. green card (having a permanent residency in the United States) is not a right but a privilege. Green card holders have both rights and obligations, and under certain conditions green card status can be revoked.
